Claro recicla reports 17% increase in electronic waste disposal and drives the circular economy.
On International E-Waste Day, Claro highlights the success of its Claro recicla program, which promotes reverse logistics and the recycling of electronic waste.
The initiative, available at over 2,000 collection points, shows a significant increase in the amount of materials correctly disposed of, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
The program has achieved impressive results, with a 17.4% increase in e-waste disposal between January and September 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
This progress underscores growing consumer awareness regarding the importance of proper electronic disposal and the effectiveness of the actions promoted by Claro.
Advances in Collection and Disposal
Between January and September 2026, Claro recicla diverted approximately 1.3 tons of electronic waste. This volume represents a significant 17.4% growth compared to the 1.1 tons recorded in the same period of 2025.
Plastic materials lead the list of collected waste, accounting for more than 45% of the total. Next are batteries at 31.6%, followed by ferrous metals (15.7%) and non-ferrous metals (4.5%).
Paper and cardboard round out the list with 2.3%, completing the sustainability indicators for the operation.
Commitment to the Circular Economy
The Claro recicla initiative is a pillar of Claro‘s Sustainability strategy, focused on waste management and promoting the circular economy.
More than 2,000 stores and authorized agents feature collection bins where anyone can drop off unused cell phones, batteries, SIM cards, and accessories.
All materials are collected, sorted, weighed, and sent to vetted partner recycling industries, ensuring a proper process.
The circular economy at Claro goes beyond collection. The company also invests in the recovery and reuse of equipment and accessories.
During the analyzed period, more than 2 million TV and internet terminals were recovered and returned to operation after screening and repair. Additionally, more than 2 million power adapters, remote controls, and HDMI cables were collected for reuse.
In the residential segment, 2,864 tons of equipment were collected for technological reuse.
Innovation in Logistics and Production
Claro‘s sustainability strategy extends to its logistics chain. The use of 25,000 Claro ecoboxes avoided the consumption of approximately 300,000 cardboard boxes and eliminated 102 tons of CO₂ emissions.
The “Recycled Remote Control” project reinserted 39.6 tons of plastic into the production cycle, a 37% increase over the previous year. This initiative enabled the manufacturing and distribution of 992,000 remote controls made entirely from recycled material.
Edgar Ribeiro, Logistics Director at Claro, highlights the synergy between sustainability and operational efficiency:
Claro not only promotes the collection or recycling of e-waste but also works on the recovery and reuse of equipment and accessories, extending the lifecycle of assets, reducing waste, and strengthening the circular economy across the company’s entire logistics chain.
A More Sustainable Future
The results of the Claro recicla program reinforce the company’s goal of extending the lifecycle of resources and minimizing waste generation, connecting operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The goal is to keep materials and products in circulation for as long as possible, reducing the demand for new resources and the environmental impacts of disposal.
Daniely Gomiero, Director of Organizational Human Development, Culture, and Sustainability at Claro and Vice President of Projects at Instituto Claro, emphasizes the importance of engagement:
Sustainability is an important part of our strategy, and that is why we seek to turn this commitment into concrete initiatives that contribute to an increasingly responsible operation. This movement gains even more strength when we are able to involve our customers and society. We want to facilitate this participation by offering simple ways for proper disposal and allowing every person to contribute, consciously, to the more responsible use of resources.
Claro invites everyone to participate in Claro recicla by taking their obsolete cell phones, batteries, chips, and accessories to one of the collection points.
To participate, simply go to one of the program’s bins. It is recommended to back up and factory reset cell phones before disposal.
