The Energisa group has inaugurated its first biomethane sale contract, supplying renewable fuel to White Martins to power the glass industry as a substitute for natural gas.

The energy transition in Brazil’s industrial sector gains a new chapter with the initiative by the Energisa group. The company has started supplying biomethane produced at its Campos Novos unit in Santa Catarina, marking the company’s strategic entry into the large-scale renewable fuels market.

The project, involving an investment of R$110 million, uses local agro-industrial waste as raw material. Currently, the plant delivers 130,000 cubic meters per month to White Martins, which uses the input to fuel furnaces for a flat glass manufacturer, replacing the use of fossil natural gas.

Industrial Synergy and Sustainability

The Santa Catarina plant, operational since April 2026, boasts robust production capacity, capable of processing 300 tons of waste per day. In addition to biomethane, the unit generates 40,000 tons of biofertilizer annually, reinforcing the circular economy model and the full utilization of agribusiness byproducts.

Fabio Bertollo, CEO of Gas Business at Energisa, stated:

“The partnership with White Martins validates the commercial viability and quality of the biomethane we produce in Santa Catarina. Combining our production capacity with the logistical and commercial expertise of this important partner allows us to reach major industrial players. It’s a win-win business model that accelerates the decarbonization of complex industrial sectors and demonstrates the enormous scaling potential we have to expand this supply in the regional market.”

Green Logistics and Environmental Impact

A significant differentiator of the project is the focus on the entire supply chain. The transportation of biomethane from the plant to the end consumer is carried out by trucks powered by vehicle gas, drastically reducing the operation’s carbon footprint.

The use of biomethane as an alternative to diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% in specific applications. This move demonstrates how Energisa plans to utilize its full installed capacity—reaching 750,000 cubic meters per month—to offer concrete decarbonization solutions to industries seeking to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.

With this operation, Energisa consolidates its position as a relevant player in Brazil’s clean energy matrix. The expectation is that the success of this model in Santa Catarina will pave the way for new commercial partnerships, leveraging biogas potential to meet the growing demand for sustainable and low-environmental-impact energy sources.
