Petrobras has surpassed the historic mark of R$ 700 billion in market capitalization, driven by a new discovery in the Equatorial Margin and strong operational performance.

Petrobras reached a historic milestone in its financial history, closing the latest trading session valued at R$ 700.08 billion on the B3 exchange.

This significant surge, which added R$ 20.9 billion to the company’s value in a single day, was catalyzed by the announcement of a new hydrocarbon discovery off the Brazilian coast,

reinforcing investor optimism regarding new exploration frontiers and a balanced energy transition.

Shares of the state-run company reacted immediately to the corporate announcement.

Preferred shares, traded under the ticker PETR4, registered a 2.81% gain,

while common shares, PETR3, advanced 3.25%.

This upward movement marks the fourth market cap record set by the oil company throughout 2026,

highlighting the financial market’s confidence in current management and the company’s operational robustness.

New Frontier in the Equatorial Margin

The discovery occurred at the Morpho exploratory well, located in block FZA-M-59,

about 175 kilometers off the coast of Amapá in ultra-deep waters of the Foz do Amazonas Basin.

This is the second occurrence identified in the same well,

strengthening the company’s strategy to replenish its reserves in new frontier areas,

known for their high geological potential but which also demand rigorous sustainability standards and environmental licensing.

Despite market enthusiasm, the state-owned enterprise emphasized that the project is still in the exploratory evaluation phase.

The next steps involve ongoing data collection campaigns to precisely map local petroleum systems,

meaning there are not yet consolidated estimates regarding recoverable reserves or future commercial production volumes in the region.

Operational Performance and Market Recognition

The gain on the B3 reflects a broader scenario of production expansion.

Average daily oil extraction jumped from approximately 2.5 million barrels at the beginning of the year to nearly 3 million barrels in September,

accompanied by higher operational efficiency and elevated utilization rates at national refineries.

According to the company’s CEO, Magda Chambriard,

the stock’s appreciation is the direct reflection of a solid corporate strategy focused on long-term results,

which aligns with the sector’s demands for energy security and efficiency.

Magda Chambriard stated:

“The market has recognized and priced in the growth of our oil production, the increase in refinery utilization rates, and the effort to replenish reserves by opening new exploratory frontiers, such as the Equatorial Margin. Petrobras’ performance goes beyond the effects of the international scenario and is also associated with the evolution of results and the company’s operational performance.”

Projections and Global Context

From January to September, the combination of market capitalization growth and shareholder dividend distributions generated an impressive return of around 185% in US dollars.

This figure places the Brazilian state-run oil company ahead of global industry giants

such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, and BP over the same analysis period.

As the company moves forward with its investment agenda,

the challenge will be balancing exploratory expansion in the Equatorial Margin with growing global demands for low-carbon industrial practices.

The future consolidation of these projects will depend as much on the technical success of campaigns off the coast of Amapá

as on maintaining the financial and operational discipline that has sustained the company’s current cycle of appreciation.
