Brasol’s Technology Protects Over 150 Solar Farms from Fires During Dry Season

The Fire Monitor, integrated into BRAM’s Operations Center, utilizes automation, satellite monitoring, and cloud data to issue real-time alerts, mitigating risks to photovoltaic assets nationwide

With the worsening dry periods in Brazil, driven by factors such as the El Niño phenomenon and an increased incidence of wildfires, Brasol is strengthening the strategic use of its “Fire Monitor“. This automated tool has been crucial for proactively protecting the company’s portfolio of over 150 solar farms and 280 MWp under its management across the country.

Developed in-house by the Performance and Monitoring teams of Brasol Renewable Asset Management (BRAM), the system represents a milestone in environmental risk management for the distributed generation sector. The platform processes data every 10 minutes from an advanced network of environmental satellites to monitor fire outbreaks.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Solar Protection

Through a cloud-based architecture and advanced data intelligence, the system cross-references the coordinates of heat spots with the locations of Brasol’s solar farms within a 5 km radius. Should an incipient fire be detected less than 2 km from any photovoltaic asset, BRAM’s Integrated Operations Center (IOC) receives an automatic and immediate alert. This agility allows for the rapid activation of preventive protocols, mitigating the risk of structural damage or interruption in clean energy generation.

During the dry season, response time is the most critical factor for asset protection and operational continuity. The Fire Monitor has eliminated the reliance on manual alerts, transforming our approach from reactive to preventive. Today, we have real-time visibility of any threat within a 5 km radius of our plants, which reinforces our commitment to operational excellence.
