Abiape has entered into a strategic partnership with BBCE to utilize real-time energy price indicators, enhancing transparency and the quality of analysis within the self-production sector.
The pursuit of greater maturity in the free energy market took a significant step forward this week.
The Brazilian Association of Investors in Self-Production of Energy (Abiape) has formalized a collaboration agreement with BBCE, an energy trading platform, to gain direct access to price indicators based on real transactions.
The core objective of this initiative is to provide the association’s members with more precise data to support decision-making.
The partnership will allow Abiape to utilize the BBCE Forward Curve, a tool that updates prices daily based on actual energy trades across various sources and regions of the country.
A benchmark for the energy sector
The reliability of the BBCE Forward Curve is already recognized by strategic government bodies and the electricity sector, such as the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the Energy Research Office (EPE), and the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE).
Furthermore, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and various financial institutions use this data to support feasibility studies and long-term pricing.
Mario Menel, president of Abiape, stated:
Access to market data and benchmarks helps qualify our studies and analyses, supporting the association’s work for the benefit of its members.
Impact on self-production and the free market
For players investing in self-production, price transparency is a determining factor for the legal and financial security of their projects.
According to BBCE, the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to promoting a business environment based on the transparency and liquidity needed to expand the energy matrix.
Camila Batich, CEO of BBCE, noted:
Providing quality data that contributes to the development of the free market is a pillar of our work in support of security, transparency, and liquidity. A market with a clear direction on pricing can invest with more confidence and develop sustainably.
The expectation is that, with access to structured and real-world data, Abiape will be able to strengthen its advocacy agenda and increase the efficiency of negotiations conducted by self-producers.
In a scenario where the opening of the electricity market is advancing, price predictability is becoming an increasingly vital competitive advantage for Brazilian industry and for the sustainability of investments in clean energy.
