Motiva consolidates its leadership in sustainability by securing the GHG Protocol Gold Seal for the 13th consecutive year, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and decarbonization.
Motiva, a Brazilian giant in the mobility infrastructure sector, has just reached an impressive milestone: its 13th consecutive Gold Seal from the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program. This prestigious recognition attests to the company’s excellence and transparency in managing and disclosing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainability in the country.
The certification not only validates the quality and consistency of the data reported by Motiva regarding its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, but also highlights concrete progress in its decarbonization journey. Independent verification of the data reinforces the company’s commitment to transparent climate management, aligned with the most rigorous international practices.

A Milestone in Emissions Management
The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, created in 2008, is the primary national initiative for the accounting and management of corporate GHG emissions. Coordinated by the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), the program adapts the methodology of the international GHG Protocol to the Brazilian reality, supported by various entities and companies.
Obtaining the Gold Seal means that Motiva meets the highest standards of transparency in communicating its environmental impacts. This includes the detailed disclosure of direct emissions (Scope 1), purchased electricity consumption (Scope 2), and indirect emissions along its value chain (Scope 3), ensuring a comprehensive overview of its carbon footprint.
Accelerating Decarbonization and Energy Transition
Motiva has demonstrated an accelerated pace in implementing its climate strategy. In 2023, the company stood out as the first in the mobility infrastructure sector in Brazil to have its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the global gold standard for science-based climate goals.
These ambitious targets aim for a 59% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 27% reduction in Scope 3 by 2033, using 2019 as a baseline. As of 2025, the company has already recorded a significant 61% reduction in direct Scope 1 and 2 emissions, exceeding expectations and demonstrating the effectiveness of its actions.
The transition to renewable energy sources is a central pillar of this strategy. Since 2024, 100% of the electricity consumed in Motiva‘s highway, rail, and airport operations comes from renewable sources. This achievement was made possible through a combination of internal generation, migration to the free energy market, and the acquisition of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs).
Innovative Initiatives for a Sustainable Future
In addition to electrification and the use of renewable energy, Motiva invests in several fronts to mitigate its environmental impact. The company has been expanding the use of biofuels in its light vehicle fleet, plans the gradual electrification of operational vehicles, and is adopting lower-carbon fuels for equipment that is difficult to electrify. Energy efficiency projects are also underway to optimize resource consumption.
Voluntary emission offsetting is another relevant action. In partnership with Reservas Votorantim, Motiva has acquired carbon credits from the Legado das Águas reserve, promoting the conservation of the Atlantic Forest and neutralizing a significant portion of its direct emissions.
The nature and biodiversity agenda has also gained momentum. The company has adopted a commitment to the ‘No Net Loss’ principles and became the first mobility infrastructure firm in South America to join the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), demonstrating an integrated vision of its sustainable operations.
Recognitions That Validate the Journey
The achievement of the GHG Protocol Gold Seal adds to a series of other recognitions that solidify Motiva‘s leadership in sustainability. The company was included in S&P Global’s The Sustainability Yearbook, which features top-performing global companies in ESG. In the Brazilian market, Motiva has been listed for 15 consecutive years on the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE B3) and the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2 B3).
Regarding resilience, Motiva is the first company in South America to receive the Resilient Enterprise Award and holds certifications such as ISO 22301 and recognition in the REAP. The company was also recognized by Ethisphere as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies.
