The Aneel has released R$ 232 million from the Tariff Flag Account to power distributors, aiming to balance the energy sector following July 2026 accounting.
The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel) has stirred the energy market by authorizing the transfer of R$ 231.79 million through the Centralizing Account for Tariff Flag Resources.
The total amount, which accounts for the July 2026 period, is intended to ensure cash flow for utility companies that hold a credit balance.
The schedule established by the agency mandates that the funds reach the companies’ accounts by September 8.
This measure is essential for maintaining the financial health of the national power system, ensuring that the costs of energy produced under atypical conditions are properly compensated among sector agents.
Transfer highlights and default management
Among the beneficiaries, Cemig Distribuição leads the list with R$ 35.78 million.
Following closely are Energisa Mato Grosso, with R$ 23.76 million, and Equatorial Goiás, with R$ 20.68 million.
Other major distributors, such as Enel Rio and Coelba, are also included in the list of recipients.
On the other hand, the system requires reciprocity: distributors with outstanding debts must settle their obligations to the Tariff Flag Account by September 3.
The total volume to be collected from these companies amounts to R$ 114.38 million.
The agency emphasized that distributors with accumulated defaults will have their credits withheld, prioritizing the settlement of previous debts in accordance with Proret regulations.
New subsidies and the scenario in Santa Catarina
Beyond tariff adjustments, Aneel also formalized an annual subsidy injection of R$ 238.88 million for energy cooperatives in Santa Catarina.
These resources are intended to offset the logistical and financial challenges posed by low load density in areas served by cooperatives supplied by Celesc Distribuição.
Among the 22 cooperatives mapped, 16 will receive funds, most notably Cersul, which will receive R$ 33.61 million.
This financial support is vital to ensure these entities continue to provide quality service in less densely populated regions, where the cost of grid maintenance is proportionately higher.
The stability of these transfers and subsidies reflects Aneel‘s role as a mediator in the financial equilibrium of the energy sector.
By enforcing strict deadlines for payments and default compensation, the agency seeks to mitigate the impacts of variations in tariff flags, ensuring the continuity of necessary investments for the modernization of distribution grids nationwide.
