Manaus reached a new historic peak in electricity consumption this Monday (09/14), recording 1,997.1 MW. Âmbar Energia ensured system stability even under the intense pressure of the Amazonian summer and the El Niño phenomenon.
The Manaus electrical system faced an unprecedented challenge this Monday (09/14). At 9:27 PM, the Amazonian capital hit the highest peak of energy consumption in its history, reaching 1,997.1 Megawatts (MW).
This performance served as a resilience test for local infrastructure, especially given the combined impacts of the Amazonian summer and climate changes driven by El Niño.
Despite the high load, Âmbar Energia—which is responsible for operations—confirmed that power supply remained uninterrupted.
The success in meeting this record demand reflects robust strategic planning, which included reinforced real-time monitoring and increased import capacity through the National Interconnected System (SIN).
Infrastructure under pressure and constant monitoring
To sustain this new load volume, the company intensified operational readiness efforts. The Operations Center (COS) strictly monitored generation and transmission assets, allowing the grid to respond agilely to peak hours.
Contingency plans specifically designed for extreme heat scenarios were put into effect, ensuring the system continued to operate within the safety parameters required for the region.
Even with the new historical record, the Manaus electrical system operated within safety parameters with no impact on power supply to the population, a result of technical planning and the performance of field and control center operation teams.
Demand growth and climate challenges
The previous record of 1,980 MW, set on August 31, lasted little more than two weeks, illustrating the speed at which the demand for stable energy is growing in the region.
This trend is driven by population growth, the expansion of the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM), and high temperatures, which increase the demand for air conditioning.
These challenges are expected to persist. Âmbar Energia reaffirms its commitment to continued investment in technology and the modernization of energy infrastructure.
In light of climate change, the company projects that consumption levels will remain high, requiring constant vigilance to ensure the reliability of service to the Amazonian population in the coming months.
