Diesel prices at Brazilian pumps continue an upward trend, reaching an average of R$ 6.72 per liter and putting pressure on logistics costs and the national transportation sector.

The Brazilian fuel market is experiencing significant pressure, with Diesel prices resuming a substantial ascent. Last Monday (14), the national average price reached R$ 6.72 per liter, reflecting a constant increase that has challenged cost predictability for cargo fleets across the country.

Data monitored by TruckPag — which tracks real-time fuel supply for transport companies — reveals a 4.02% jump since September 3rd. This upward movement occurs just after Petrobras implemented a price cut, suggesting that the domestic market has reacted quickly to external and operational variables, negating the initial relief at the pumps.

Price Escalation and Regional Impacts

The price curve has been steep. Between the week of September 6th to 12th and the beginning of this week, the price jumped from R$ 6.62 to R$ 6.72. In practice, large-scale consumers, such as logistics companies, are already experiencing a minimal lag compared to the peak registered during the period, remaining just R$ 0.01 below the ceiling observed last Sunday.

At the state level, the variation is not uniform, but it points to a scenario of widespread increases. Santa Catarina leads the ranking for price hikes, with an increase of R$ 0.42 per liter (+6.92%) since the beginning of the month. Following closely, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso also show significant increases of R$ 0.37 per liter each.

The precision of TruckPag‘s data, collected every three hours, indicates that volatility in the transportation sector remains high, directly impacting freight calculations and the profitability of Brazilian transport companies.

Long-term Impact on the Energy Sector

Analyzing the accumulated figures since the end of February, the trajectory is even more concerning: Diesel has seen an accumulated appreciation of 16.98%. During that period, a liter was sold for R$ 5.75, indicating that fuel inflation has surpassed other economic indices over recent months.

The transportation sector, the backbone of the Brazilian economy, is now cautiously observing Petrobras‘ next steps and currency fluctuations. With fuel operating near its highest level of the year, market players expect that pressure on logistics costs will continue to be the main challenge for consumer price stability in the coming weeks.
