Elea Data Centers ensures that its new technology hub in Belém will respect strict ecological standards and guarantees that the project will not cause an energy deficit in the Amazon region.

The expansion of digital infrastructure in the northern region of the country is taking shape following clarifications provided by Elea Data Centers regarding the BEL1 project. Planned for the capital of Pará state, the venture aims to boost local technological sovereignty, directly responding to the demands of public agencies and companies currently reliant on servers located in the Southeast.

With an initial investment estimated at R$ 250 million, the initiative aims to fill a historical gap in regional connectivity, although its design required closer dialogue with civil society and regulatory bodies.

The project outlines an initial capacity of 7.5 megawatts, with potential for future expansion in line with market evolution. In response to questions raised by local residents and the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Pará, the company reinforced its commitment to transparency and strict compliance with legal requirements before construction begins, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.

Commitment to sustainability and clean energy matrix

The chosen location for the venture is near the Miramar substation, in a strategic area that will demand heightened caution. The company’s CEO, Alessandro Lombardi, acknowledged that ecological rigor in the Amazon must exceed the standards applied in the country’s traditional industrial zones.

To mitigate concerns related to natural resources, the company assured that the cooling system will not draw water from local rivers. Furthermore, the electricity supply will come entirely from clean sources, supported by a renewable energy contract signed with Axia.

Alessandro Lombardi stated:

“We will strictly follow the processing of all environmental licensing that will be necessary.”

Energy impact and digital inclusion in the North

Another central point addressed by the executive board involves concerns about overloading Pará’s electrical system. According to the company, the initial demand of 7.5 MW corresponds to an energy consumption level lower than that of a mid-sized shopping mall, ruling out risks of power shortages for residential consumers.

The infrastructure aims to bring data processing closer to universities such as UFPA and local internet service providers. The proposal is to mitigate the digital divide faced by northern states by decentralizing technology, which is currently heavily concentrated in the southeast axis.

As preliminary studies advance toward the licensing phase, the corporation’s legal team is maintaining open channels of communication with surrounding communities and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The goal is to align expectations and ensure that technological development goes hand in hand with the socio-environmental preservation of the region.
