Brazil is emerging as a global energy player, benefiting from geopolitical realignments and attracting significant investments, according to leaders from Bratecc.
Brazil is solidifying its position as an undeniable force in the global energy sector. The recent ROG.e 2026 event, held in Rio de Janeiro, clearly indicated this rise, marked by the notable return of the United States pavilion after a decade and the presence of global CEOs from giants like Total and Shell. This significant foreign participation underscores the country’s growing importance on the complex international energy stage.
The assessment comes from Carla Lacerda, president, and Hélder Waiandt, vice-president of Bratecc – the Brazil-Texas Chamber of Commerce. In an interview with the ‘estúdio eixos’ during the event, they highlighted how the current geopolitical context, characterized by instabilities in other producing nations, has created a unique moment for the development of the Brazilian energy sector.
Opportunities in a Fluid Global Scenario
The executives from Bratecc, an organization celebrating 25 years of operation, point out that global volatility has created an unprecedented “window of opportunity” for Brazil. The country, already recognized as the world’s largest offshore producer, boasts a remarkably diversified energy matrix, combining resources such as oil and gas, biofuels, wind power, solar power, and potential nuclear power.
Brazil’s resource wealth is a decisive factor. Hélder Waiandt emphasized that the Atlantic Basin, which includes the promising Equatorial Margin off the Brazilian coast, is estimated to hold over 100 billion barrels in reserves, consolidating the country’s potential.
Texas and the Strength of Bilateral Partnership
The commercial relationship between the United States and Brazil is significantly driven by Texas. The U.S. state alone accounts for 20% of all bilateral trade, more than double the volume of Florida, which ranks second. For Carla Lacerda, this connection is increasingly organic, given the similarities between the two regions’ GDPs and the well-established supply chain in the oil and gas industry.
Brazil’s geopolitical stability and robust industrial infrastructure are fundamental attractions for investors. When contrasted with other producing regions facing structural challenges, the country stands out for its reliability.

Despite the optimistic outlook, the development of a skilled workforce emerges as one of the main bottlenecks for the sector over the next 25 years. This is not a challenge exclusive to Brazil but a global issue requiring attention.
Carla Lacerda suggests that to engage young people in the energy industry, it is crucial to more effectively communicate the high degree of technological innovation present in the sector, which ranks among the most advanced globally. Hélder Waiandt cited Texas as a model for energy integration, where, in addition to being the leading oil producer in the United States, it also leads in solar and wind power production and is advancing to become America’s largest nuclear energy hub. This example serves as a parallel for the continuous diversification of Brazil’s energy matrix.
