Brazil’s benchmark stock index, Ibovespa, reaches a historic 209,000 points, fueled by financial market optimism following the first round of the Brazilian presidential elections.

The Brazilian financial market witnessed a historic movement this Monday. The Ibovespa surged, reaching an unprecedented 209,000 points, driven by investor reaction to the results of the first round of the presidential elections.

The electoral race, decided last Sunday, saw Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) take the lead for the second round runoff, surpassing current President Lula da Silva (PT). With the final vote count, the margin between the candidates mobilized the economic sector and led to a significant appreciation in national assets.

Significant Reaction on B3 and New Oscillation Limits

The impact on trading was immediate. The short-term Ibovespa futures contract showed a gain of over 7% even before the official market opening.

Given the volatility and strong buying appetite, B3, the Brazilian stock exchange, had to intervene by raising the daily fluctuation limit for futures and mini-futures contracts from 10% to 13%. Analysts point out that the positive reception is tied to liberal proposals and the expectation of changes in the country’s economic management.

The election outcome signals the end of the PT era and opens the door for a new economic agenda focused on fiscal responsibility and the free market.

Global Impact and Asset Appreciation Abroad

The optimism was not limited to the domestic market. Brazilian assets traded in the United States also registered significant jumps during pre-market trading in New York.

The banking sector led the international gains. Depositary receipts for Itaú Unibanco shares advanced 14.74%, while Bradesco rose 12.75%, and Nubank recorded an 11.36% increase. Giants in the commodities and energy sectors also followed the euphoric trend.

Petrobras‘s ADRs showed an appreciation of 8.08%, reflecting shareholder confidence in potential corporate guidelines more aligned with the market. In turn, Vale advanced 5.38%, capping a historic trading day for Brazil-focused investors.
