AXIA Energia formalizes BRL 1.7 billion investment with ANEEL for the expansion of the Luiz Gonzaga HPP and new transmission assets.
AXIA Energia has taken a key strategic step toward expanding Brazil’s energy infrastructure. This Thursday, the company formalized contracts with the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) totaling an investment of BRL 1.668 billion. The agreements cover both the enhancement of the transmission grid and the expansion of a major hydroelectric power plant.
This significant volume of resources is allocated to four projects won in previous auctions, highlighting the company’s commitment to the development and sustainability of the sector. The initiative reinforces the country’s energy security and projects robust growth on two crucial fronts: efficient distribution and increased generation capacity.
Robust Expansion in Energy Transmission
In the energy transmission segment, AXIA Energia plans to invest BRL 668 million in three new lots. These new facilities are strategically located in the states of São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Mato Grosso. Once operational, they will generate an increase of BRL 50.8 million in the company’s Annual Permitted Revenue (RAP).
Currently, the company manages an impressive 74,000 kilometers of transmission lines across the country. The formalization of these contracts shifts the focus toward safe and efficient execution, as noted by Fernando Cardozo, Director of New Transmission Business at AXIA Energia.
“The projects have distinct characteristics and challenges. From here on, the focus is to develop them with safety, efficiency, and discipline to bring them into operation according to our commitments.”
Capacity Increase in Hydroelectric Generation
The generation front is also receiving a significant boost with the expansion of the Luiz Gonzaga Hydroelectric Power Plant (UHE Luiz Gonzaga). Located on the São Francisco River in Pernambuco, the project will require an investment of approximately BRL 1 billion.
The expansion will include the installation of a new generating unit, adding 246.6 MW of nominal power to the system. This project had 190.129 MW sold in the Capacity Reserve Auction (LRCap) under the power capacity modality.
Energy supply is scheduled to begin in August 2031 and will span 15 years. The main objective is to strengthen the operational flexibility and reliability of the National Interconnected System (SIN).
The realization of these contracts by AXIA Energia underscores a period of great dynamism in the energy sector. With nearly BRL 1.7 billion at stake, the company is not only expanding its operations but actively contributing to the modernization and robustness of the national electrical system.
Investments in energy transmission and hydroelectric generation are essential to ensuring efficient power distribution and meeting the country’s growing demand, aligning with the principles of sustainability and energy security.
