Power Outage at Viracopos Airport Causes Disruptions and Flight Delays
An internal substation failure at Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo, early Tuesday (22) significantly impacted the terminal’s operations. The incident, which began around 3:10 AM, caused long lines and flight delays throughout the morning.
According to airport administration, the power outage affected check-in lounge facilities, requiring maintenance crews to be dispatched to normalize systems. Despite the inconvenience for passengers, which led to slower boarding procedures, areas such as the aircraft apron and the runway were not affected. By approximately 7:30 AM, the airport reported operations were beginning to normalize.
CPFL Paulista, the local energy provider, clarified that the electrical fault originated within the airport’s internal facilities, not from its external grid. Consequently, responsibility for the incident lies with the terminal’s administration. By 3 PM, Viracopos had recorded 38 canceled flights and 111 delayed flights, although it is still pending confirmation whether all delays are directly related to the power outage. Airlines advised passengers to check their flight status before traveling to the airport.
