Brazil’s automotive industry recorded its best performance of the last decade in September, driven by significant growth in sales and the sector’s accumulated production.

The transportation sector and the national automotive industry achieved significant milestones last month. Even with a slight decline compared to August, the volume of vehicle manufacturing in Brazil posted a strong year-over-year increase.

According to data released by Anfavea, 268.3 thousand units were manufactured during the period. The result consolidates the strongest performance for the month of September since 2014, encompassing automobiles, light commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses.

In the accumulated total for the first nine months of the year, the positive pace remains steady, reflecting market heating and the sector’s effort to meet the growing demand for mobility.

Production progress and assembly details

Between January and September, national manufacturing totaled nearly 2.2 million vehicles, representing an 8.7% expansion compared to the same period of the previous year.

Despite the favorable numbers, the association warns about the structure of this expansion. Of the additional volume produced during the year, the majority used CKD and SKD assembly systems, while only a smaller share was 100% domestically manufactured.

In commerce, September registrations also reached their highest level in the last ten years, totaling 281.4 thousand units sold, highlighted by a 22.5% jump in the automobile segment.

This September saw the highest volume since 2014. It has been a long time since we had such a good September.

The statement by Anfavea President Igor Calvet reflects automakers’ optimism regarding the recovery of sales and manufacturing volumes in the country.

Outlook for sustainable mobility

The recovery in vehicle production and commercialization establishes a solid foundation for the modernization of the national vehicle fleet.

The expectation for the coming months is the continuation of the sales pace, boosting energy efficiency and preparing the industry for new clean mobility technologies.
