Belém is emerging as the primary logistical support for Petrobras‘s plans in the new Equatorial Margin frontier, connecting the capital of Pará to the future energy development of Amapá.

Petrobras‘s management has identified the capital of Pará as a crucial strategic point for structuring operations on the Amapá coast.

During a visit to Belém for the Círio de Nazaré festivities, the state-owned company’s CEO, Magda Chambriard, highlighted that Pará’s infrastructure offers superior support conditions compared to the municipality of Oiapoque.

The logistical movement is part of the oil company’s strategy to consolidate a new energy-producing province in northern Brazil.

The company had already planned to utilize the Pará metropolis in its previous operational guidelines, integrating local ports and specialized support to meet the demands of the exploration campaign in the region.

Advances in the Amazon Mouth

These statements come amidst promising results in the Amazon Mouth Basin, particularly at the Morpho well, located in block FZA-M-59.

The site has shown signs of hydrocarbons at different depths, reinforcing the company’s optimism about the area’s potential to replenish national reserves and counterbalance the future decline of the pre-salt fields.

Despite the positive indications, the economic confirmation of the area requires technical caution and further operational steps.

The company’s leadership emphasized that commercial viability will only be determined after additional drilling and in-depth laboratory analyses of the reservoirs.

Magda Chambriard stated:

In the exploration phase, we have many uncertainties

Next Steps and Sustainability

To assess the true potential of the discovery, the state-owned company has licenses to advance in new drilling fronts in the northern region.

The immediate schedule includes completing activities at the Morpho well by October, at which point the rig will be demobilized and transferred to the Potiguar Basin in Rio Grande do Norte to continue research at the Mãe de Ouro well.

Given the international scrutiny surrounding exploration in the Equatorial Margin, the company’s management reiterated its commitment to operational safety and environmental rigor.

The company asserts that its planning considers the protection of traditional communities and local ecosystems, even with the record of previous incidents involving drilling fluids reported to Ibama.
