The Opep+ has decided to keep the oil production quotas unchanged for December, solidifying a third consecutive maintenance amid the gradual recovery of the international market.

In a videoconference held by the alliance of major energy producers, the Opep+ confirmed that oil extraction targets will remain fully stable throughout December.

The group, jointly led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, opted for prudence and froze production volumes at the same levels set from September of this year.

This measure marks the completion of the operational planning stipulated for 2026, shifting the focus of multilateral negotiations to defining production guidelines for 2027.

Stability in the global supply schedule

The resolution approved by the coalition consolidates a third consecutive maintenance of global extraction limits, keeping the operational level unchanged.

In September, the bloc had completed the gradual reinsertion of 1.65 million barrels per day into the market, reversing cuts originally implemented in 2023.

With the conclusion of this two-year adjustment cycle, the organization’s specialists begin reviewing each participating country’s actual production capacity.

Geopolitical tension and sector impacts

The international economic environment throughout the year was heavily influenced by instabilities stemming from the confrontation between the United States and Iran.

The military crisis temporarily halted activities in key extraction areas and disrupted tanker navigation along the strategic route of the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the progressive resumption of exports by Gulf Coast countries, several group members continue operating below the maximum authorized production ceiling.

The 7 OPEP+ countries will continue to hold monthly meetings to analyze market conditions.

Next steps and future guidelines

The alliance responsible for decision-making includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman in steering supply policy.

By maintaining predictable supply, the cartel aims to ensure price stability for the barrel amid demand fluctuations and recurring geopolitical risks.

Representatives of the member countries will reconvene on November 29, when they will begin discussions to align the market strategy for 2027.
