Norte Energia announces a major board restructuring to optimize the management of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant, aiming for a new cycle of excellence and sustainability.
In a strategic move signaling a period of intense transformation, Norte Energia, the concessionaire responsible for the grand Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant—a cornerstone of power generation in Brazil—has revealed a significant overhaul of its executive leadership. This initiative, according to the company, is crucial for driving a robust turnaround process, enhancing operational performance, strengthening financial discipline, and consolidating sustainability practices.
Under the new leadership of CEO Luiz Eduardo Osorio, who took office in April, the company aims to align its corporate governance structure with the dynamic demands of the Brazilian electricity sector. The central objective is to bolster the hydroelectric plant’s contribution to the security and stability of the National Interconnected System (SIN), ensuring that the clean energy generated by Belo Monte continues to flow efficiently and reliably.
New Executive Architecture Promotes Integration and Focus
Norte Energia’s executive reorganization was designed to create greater synergy among strategic areas essential for operating large-scale assets. One of the notable changes is the appointment of Ludmila Lopes Nascimento Brasil, who transitions from the independent board to head the Planning and ESG Directorate. In this new role, she will concentrate on the critical fronts of Sustainability, Compliance, and Risk Management, which are pivotal pillars for sustainable energy.
Director Silvia Cabral will have her responsibilities exclusively focused on Regulatory and Commercialization areas. This specialization aims to improve contract management and strengthen Norte Energia‘s position in the complex energy market. Financial stability, meanwhile, remains under the experienced guidance of Júlio Freitas, who continues to lead the Finance and Investor Relations Directorate.
In the institutional sphere, Luiz Claudio Cristofaro, who joined the company in April 2026 as Legal Director, now also oversees the Communication and Institutional Relations departments, aiming to optimize communication and relationships with various stakeholders. In the Operations and Maintenance Directorate, the departure of Wady Charone has led to interim management, with Sandro Deivis (Operations) and Wagner Lellis (Maintenance) reporting directly to the CEO while a new head is selected. These changes underscore the pursuit of operational excellence at the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant.
CEO’s Vision: A New Virtuous Cycle
The restructurings directly reflect Norte Energia‘s priority in implementing more agile governance adapted to the sector’s rigorous operational demands. Strategic alignment between planning, regulation, and execution is seen as essential for mitigating engineering risks and optimizing the dispatch matrix of the plant, located on the Xingu River.
CEO Luiz Eduardo Osorio highlighted the importance of these changes for the company’s future:
“The turnaround process will lead Norte Energia to a strengthened management structure, enabling the Company to advance in a virtuous cycle focused on value generation, operational excellence, financial discipline, and risk reduction. Its relevance to the National Interconnected System and to Brazil demands an increasingly integrated, efficient organization prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the electricity sector.”
This overhaul at Norte Energia not only aims for internal optimization but also projects a significant impact on the country’s clean and sustainable energy landscape. With a more focused and integrated management team, the concessionaire seeks to ensure that the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Power Plant continues to operate with maximum efficiency and responsibility, contributing decisively to national energy security and to the development of a greener future for Brazil. The expectation is that this new management model will catalyze positive results, consolidating the company’s position as a key player in the energy sector.
