Project in Niterói promises to save R$ 192,000 per year on urban cleaning with solar power, water heating, and batteries to ensure service continuity.
The headquarters of the Niterói Urban Cleaning Company, known as Clin, was selected to receive a comprehensive energy modernization project at no direct cost to public coffers.
The initiative includes the installation of solar power plants, battery storage, and replacement of electric water heating systems at the agency’s building.
The plan projects an annual reduction of approximately R$ 192,000 on the municipal agency’s electricity bill in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Full financing and focus on efficiency
The total investment of R$ 1,028,480.82 will be fully funded by the distributor Enel Rio through a public call linked to programs regulated by ANEEL.
The estimate indicates a relief of 247 MWh per year in Clin’s consumption, representing about 74% of the unit’s current electric demand.
In addition to photovoltaic modules, the plan foresees the replacement of 33 electric showers with solar heating composed of 32 collectors and thermal tanks.
“The estimated monetary savings depend on actual consumption, ongoing maintenance, and the real performance of the equipment installed on site.”
Batteries to maintain continuous operation
The project includes two hybrid systems with backup batteries to protect priority circuits during potential power outages.
Because Clin operates 24 hours a day, operational safety justifies the implementation of energy storage in the infrastructure.
The use of batteries aims to sustain essential loads without the obligation to keep all building equipment running during a blackout.
Future steps and lessons for the private sector
The projections presented by the Niterói City Hall still depend on contract signing, construction execution, and proper commissioning of the systems.
Commercial ventures with uninterrupted operation can use this experience to differentiate the pursuit of financial savings from the need for contingency power.
Ongoing preventive maintenance and the training of operational teams will be crucial to ensure the lifespan of photovoltaic components.
Next Steps and Measuring Results
The real impacts on the bill and the stability of urban cleaning services can only be assessed after the plants enter full operation.
If the goals are met, Clin will establish itself as a regional sustainability model in tenders promoted by ANEEL.
