Motiva enters the electric bus charging market with a R$5 million investment in São Paulo.

Urban electric mobility’s expansion opens a new chapter in São Paulo with Motiva‘s entry into the electric bus charging sector. The company announced a R$5 million investment to establish its first operation in the field, signing a service provision contract with Viação Campo Belo. This initiative marks a significant step in Motiva‘s long-term plans, which aim to expand its electromobility solutions to various segments.

The investment was directed towards building a comprehensive charging infrastructure at the Guido Calo Depot, located on Line 5 – Lilac, operated by ViaMobilidade. Twelve high-power chargers were installed, each with 180 kVA, capable of simultaneously serving 24 electric buses. The estimated charging time is up to three hours, with the expectation of serving approximately 40 Viação Campo Belo vehicles daily.

Under the adopted model, Motiva assumes all investments, including equipment acquisition and installation, electrical grid adaptation, energy management, and maintenance. In return, transport operators pay for the use of the charging points. The energy consumed in this operation comes from the Oitis Wind Farm Complex, located in Piauí and Bahia, where the company holds an equity stake.

João Pita, Commercial Director at Motiva, highlights the company’s expertise in energy management. He explains:

We are one of Brazil’s largest energy consumers, which gives us the scale, financial capacity, and technical competence to offer innovative electromobility solutions.

Motiva‘s proposal is to simplify the transition to electric fleets, by integrating infrastructure, chargers, energy, and maintenance into a single package, reducing complexity for operators.

Motiva‘s vision for the electromobility market extends beyond public transport. The company plans to offer charging solutions for ride-sharing fleets, retail and e-commerce companies, and also for long-distance highway travel. Partnerships are being explored to leverage concession areas and public transport stations in São Paulo and Salvador for the installation of new fast-charging points. The objective is to create a robust electromobility ecosystem, driving the energy transition across different transport modalities.
