The Ministry of Mines and Energy has authorized Mercatto Energia to export surplus electricity to Argentina and Uruguay, reinforcing regional energy integration.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has granted authorization for Mercatto Energia to export interruptible electric power to Argentina and Uruguay.
The measure allows for the strategic utilization of resources generated within the country that are not currently required to meet the demands of the National Interconnected System (SIN).
With this decision, the power sector gains operational efficiency, expanding energy exchange among South American nations.
Rules and Sustainability in Export Operations
The authorization covers electricity from thermal power plants in commercial operation that are available and outside the national dispatch order.
Additionally, the ordinance encompasses surplus hydroelectric generation, preventing water waste through so-called spillable water resources.
In this way, excess water resources are converted into clean, marketable energy supply for neighboring countries.
Security Guarantees and Operational Obligations
To ensure the stability of the national supply, external commercialization cannot impact domestic service.
The operations must not compromise the energy security of the National Interconnected System nor increase the costs of the Brazilian power sector.
Mercatto Energia, a management company based in Farroupilha, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, must provide monthly sales reports to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
