Kroma Energia is expanding the photovoltaic system at the Abrigo São Vicente de Paulo nursing home in Garanhuns. With the donation of new modules, the Pernambuco-based institution will achieve energy self-sufficiency, cutting costs and reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
The pursuit of clean energy sources and support for social causes go hand in hand in a recent initiative carried out in the Agreste region of Pernambuco. Kroma Energia, in partnership with WEG Solar, inaugurated the expansion of the photovoltaic system at the Abrigo São Vicente de Paulo, located in Garanhuns. The project marks an important step in the energy transition for non-profit organizations in Brazil.
The inauguration was attended by leaders such as Écliton Ramos, Director of Energy Solutions at Kroma Energia, Mayor Sivaldo Rodrigues Albino, State Representative Cayo Albino, and the director of the shelter, Sister Sônia Maria. The joining of forces between the private sector and public administration highlights the viability of solar energy as a tool to optimize assistance budgets.
Increased Capacity and Energy Efficiency
The institution’s original system operated with 68 photovoltaic modules, supplying 61% of monthly consumption with a generation of approximately 3.92 MWh. With the donation of 81 new 555 W modules, the installed capacity jumped to around 82 kWp. This expansion is strategic, as it aims to cover the 3.14 MWh previously billed by the utility company, allowing the shelter to achieve 100% energy coverage.
The updated infrastructure not only meets basic lighting and operational needs, but also enables the use of high-consumption equipment. Among them are the new industrial laundry facility and air conditioning units, which are essential for the comfort of the 70 elderly residents living there.
Social Impact Through Sustainability
For company leadership, the initiative goes far beyond installing solar panels. The core objective is to provide financial autonomy to the institution by drastically reducing its electricity bill.
“The expansion of the solar system at Abrigo São Vicente de Paulo demonstrates in practice how renewable energy can help transform realities. In addition to expanding the use of a clean source, the initiative helps reduce a fixed expense for the institution, allowing these resources to be allocated to other needs of the elderly,” stated Rodrigo Mello, CEO of Kroma Energia.
The feeling of a job well done was also shared by Écliton Ramos, who reinforced the social value of the delivery:
“More than just installing new equipment, we are helping to give the shelter greater cost predictability and more autonomy in energy management. It is a satisfaction for Kroma to be part of an initiative that combines energy efficiency, sustainability, and care for the elderly population,” he declared.
A Model for the Future
With 67 years of operation, Abrigo São Vicente de Paulo now establishes itself as a benchmark in energy efficiency within the third sector. The savings generated by distributed generation will serve to strengthen the maintenance of housing, health, and psychosocial assistance services.
The system, whose connections have already been finalized, is now awaiting inspection by the local power utility to begin full operation. This project exemplifies how the adoption of renewable energy technologies can be a pillar for strengthening essential institutions, ensuring that financial resources are redirected toward human care, consolidating a more sustainable and supportive future.
