The Legal Fuel Institute (ICL) is intensifying its crackdown on irregularities and tax fraud, bringing strategies to ExpoPostos & Conveniência to combat organized crime’s operations in the retail sector.
The 22nd edition of ExpoPostos & Conveniência, one of the largest events in the fuel sector in Latin America, will feature a robust agenda addressing illicit practices. From September 8 to 10, the Legal Fuel Institute (ICL) will play a leading role in discussions on legal certainty and market protection against criminal activities.
ICL’s participation aims to expose the damage caused to the national economy, where the irregular market is responsible for billions in losses every year. The entity’s agenda seeks to align the sector in advocating for legislative advancements and the application of technologies that ensure transparency in resale operations.
Strategic Actions Against the Illegal Market
The entity’s activities will kick off at the event’s opening, with the participation of Emerson Kapaz, ICL’s president. In a panel scheduled for the 8th, at 11:30 AM, Executive Director Carlo Faccio will discuss the urgent need to implement the persistent debtor law.
The debate will also focus on the importance of joint operations among oversight bodies and the effective crackdown on tax and operational fraud. Regarding this scenario, Faccio emphasized the importance of educating the end consumer:
Consumers need to be aware of the hidden risks in excessively low prices, which often conceal fuel adulteration and money laundering schemes operated by organized crime.
Technology and the Future of Fuel Retail
To conclude ICL’s presence at the event, on September 10, the executive director will lead a lecture at the Arena do Conhecimento (Knowledge Arena). The presentation will focus on the negative impacts caused by the irregular market on the sector’s sustainability and the safety of Brazilian consumers.
In addition to regulatory frameworks, the entity advocates for the modernization of oversight through the use of digital tools. The expectation is that by combining technology and legislative rigor, the sector will be able to curb unfair competition and protect the financial health of the fuel market and the integrity of those who fuel up daily.
