The federal government has approved R$ 50 billion in investments for the green industry, boosting strategic sectors such as biogas, electric mobility, and sustainable technologies through the Eco Invest Brasil program.

The Brazilian economy’s decarbonization strategy has reached a new milestone with the official confirmation of the results from the fifth Eco Invest Brasil auction. The Ministries of Finance and Environment have confirmed the allocation of R$ 49.95 billion to bolster six essential production chains for the country’s energy and technological transition.

The record volume of proposals, which reached R$ 181.3 billion in demand from six financial institutions, reinforces the market’s appetite for the ESG agenda. The initiative, part of the broader Ecological Transformation Plan, utilizes a hybrid structure of innovation funds and corporate credit to leverage public contributions for high-impact environmental projects.

Focus on clean energy and electrification

The energy sector is a protagonist in this round of investments. HSBC has been selected to structure operations focused on next-generation green fuels, including biogas and biomethane, with a R$ 5.2 billion investment. Concurrently, Santander will lead the R$ 6.5 billion financing aimed at critical minerals, battery storage, and electromobility.

The commitment to energy storage systems, which will receive R$ 4.55 billion, is seen as a fundamental step toward addressing bottlenecks in the Brazilian power grid and optimizing the use of intermittent renewable sources.

Structuring these innovation and corporate credit funds allows private capital to be mobilized efficiently to meet the challenge of industrial decarbonization, ensuring that Brazil maintains its leadership in the clean energy matrix.

Diversification and technological development

Beyond energy solutions, the round prioritized economic circularity. Bradesco secured the largest share, with R$ 11 billion focused on mineral and industrial waste, as well as robust investments in bio-inputs, green fertilizers, and sustainable chemistry. Itaú concentrated on digitalization and industrial automation, investing R$ 9.75 billion in artificial intelligence technologies applied to productivity.

The program is not limited to direct financial support. A notable feature is the commitment to science: the approved proposals reserve a significant portion of their resources—between 10.25% and 20%—for partnerships with universities and research institutions.

With this result, Eco Invest Brasil consolidates a total of R$ 190 billion mobilized over its five editions. The focus now shifts to the speed at which these resources will reach their final destination, fostering the technology-based industry and solidifying Brazil as a priority destination for global investments focused on sustainability.
