Flávio Bolsonaro‘s performance in the first round of the elections boosted clean energy stocks and the Ibovespa, reflecting market optimism regarding the energy transition and fiscal reforms.

The financial market reacted with strong optimism during the very first trading session following the close of the first round of the presidential elections. Brazil’s benchmark stock index, the Ibovespa, posted significant jumps, while shares of companies linked to the sustainable energy, oil, and utilities sectors led the day’s gains. This movement reflects investor expectations for a more predictable economic scenario focused on fiscal discipline.

Experts point out that the voting results positively surprised economic agents, who now project an institutional environment more favorable to private capital. With the possibility of a shift in economic management, the market foresees prospects of relief in the future interest rate curve, which eases corporate debt and stimulates new investments in infrastructure and green innovation across the country.

Impact on Interest Rates and Inflow of Foreign Capital

The surge in electric utility and oil and gas assets was intensified by a significant influx of foreign capital. As evaluated by Augusto Parente, founder of AW Capital, the decline in interest rate projections directly benefits companies with higher financial leverage, reducing the weight of debt expenses.

Augusto Parente stated:

The other companies are businesses that have a high level of leverage and, with the results of the first round, the interest rate scenario in the country has become milder. This benefits companies with higher debt, since lower interest rates mean lower financial expenses and better results.

This dynamic favors long-term planning for renewable energy projects, which require massive investments and depend on a stable macroeconomic environment to make new generation plants and transmission lines viable.

Guidelines for the Energy and Infrastructure Sector

Flávio Bolsonaro‘s government platform emphasizes the participation of the private initiative in the energy segment, proposing to deepen the opening of the natural gas market. In addition, the program signals greater flexibility in environmental licensing processes, a historical agenda advocated by investors in the hydrocarbons sector to unblock delayed projects.

However, the agenda also includes pillars aimed at modernizing the energy matrix. Proposals include expanding the transmission network to connect new clean power plants, implementing battery energy storage systems, and establishing definitive regulations for the carbon market.

Outlook for the Energy Transition

Another point of convergence and highlight in the plan is Brazil’s consolidation as a global benchmark in sustainable fuels. The strategy encompasses the expansion of the RenovaBio program and the stimulation of biogas, biomethane, green diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production, aligning economic growth with global decarbonization goals.

As the runoff election approaches, the energy sector remains at the center of investor attention. The ability to align the attraction of private investments with legal and regulatory certainty will be decisive in consolidating the country as a hub for clean energy innovation in the coming years.
