EDF Power Solutions has taken a significant step in the digitalization of its operations by launching its System Operations Center (SOC) in Rio de Janeiro. This new facility centralizes real-time monitoring for over 1 GW of power generation assets, marking a notable milestone for both the company and the renewable energy sector in Latin America. The center is designed to optimize oversight and accelerate responses to any operational issues.
The initiative reflects EDF Power Solutions’ commitment to operational efficiency and the sustainability of its portfolio. With the capability to integrate various technologies, the SOC serves as a strategic pillar for the expansion and enhancement of its remote management operations.
Expansion and Future Vision
The SOC is already managing key assets, such as the Sinop and Dardanelos hydroelectric plants in Mato Grosso, and has recently incorporated the Pirapora solar power plants in Minas Gerais. The company plans to expand the center’s reach to include all of its proprietary assets in the region, including wind farms and transmission lines, by the end of 2026.
Upon completion of this expansion phase, EDF Power Solutions expects to reach 2.1 GW of integrated capacity under the SOC’s supervision. This consolidation will create a unified platform for performance analysis and rapid decision-making, regardless of asset technology or location.
Operational Optimization and Safety
The new center’s architecture was carefully designed to harmonize real-time data, operational oversight, and standardized processes. This enables faster identification of deviations and more effective responses from teams responsible for Operations and Maintenance (O&M). Centralization is a key differentiator in managing a diversified portfolio.
