The CCEE is advancing its organizational restructuring by nominating Elisa Bastos to lead the Technology Directorate, a strategic move to modernize the country’s energy market.
The Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE) took a decisive step this Wednesday, September 16, by approving Elisa Bastos to fill the vacant position of Market Technology Director. This decision ends a waiting period that began in March, when the Brazilian power sector underwent a major corporate governance restructuring.
The selection process was rigorous and included the endorsement of a specialized external consultancy, which validated the candidate’s technical skills for the challenges of the role. The nomination now awaits final approval from sector agents at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for September 25.
Background and expertise in the power sector
Elisa Bastos is a prominent figure in the clean energy and infrastructure sector. With a degree in Systems Analysis and a PhD in Energy Systems Planning from Unicamp, she brings a technical background that combines strategic vision with in-depth knowledge of national regulations.
Her experience includes tenures at key institutions within the Brazilian energy ecosystem, such as the National Electric System Operator (ONS), as well as a solid tenure as a director at the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) between 2018 and 2022.
The appointment reflects the CCEE‘s search for leaders who can bridge digital transformation with the complex dynamics of the energy market, ensuring greater operational efficiency and security for sector agents.
Challenges in CCEE governance
The arrival of a permanent leader for the technology department comes at an important transition period for the CCEE. Since the new governance structure separated the Board of Directors from the Executive Board, the entity has been working to fill key positions to strengthen its ability to respond to the demands of an increasingly dynamic market.
In addition to technology, the sector’s attention remains focused on the executive presidency, which is still under the interim management of Ricardo Simabuku. The position became vacant following the departure of Alexandre Ramos, who took the helm at Cemig. The expectation is that with the new technology leadership in place, the CCEE will gain the momentum needed to consolidate its governance goals for the coming years.
