Intercity bus fares see significant drop in August, solidifying the mode of transport as an economical option.
August brought some relief for bus travelers in Brazil. Recent data indicates a 1.1% reduction in the average ticket price compared to the previous month, reinforcing bus travel as an increasingly attractive and cost-controlled alternative. The survey, conducted by the ClickBus Road Transport Index (IRCB) in partnership with Fipe, confirms the trend of fare stability.
The scenario of favorable operational costs fueled this price decrease. The 0.8% drop in diesel prices, a major input for the sector, and a slight deflation of 0.3% in the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) during the same period, significantly contributed to companies being able to pass these savings onto consumers.
Regions and Trip Types Lead the Reduction
The Midwest region of the country stood out in fare reductions, with a regional decrease of 5.6%. The Federal District saw the biggest discounts, with a 7.5% drop in average ticket prices. Mato Grosso do Sul (-6.9%) and Goiás (-6.3%) also recorded significant decreases, reinforcing the economic advantage of traveling by bus on these routes.
Regarding trip types, inter-state travel experienced the most relief, with a 5.5% price decrease. This reduction is particularly relevant for those who need to travel long distances, where ticket costs can represent a significant portion of a budget.
Comfort and Distance: Other Saving Factors
Analysis by service class also revealed benefits for passengers. Sleeper seats saw the largest reduction, with a 5.3% drop, followed by semi-sleeper (-3.1%) and executive (-2.7%) options. This variation shows that regardless of comfort preference, consumers benefited financially.
For travelers opting for longer routes, the news is even better. Trips over 400 km became, on average, 3.9% cheaper, indicating that savings are even more pronounced on long-distance routes, consolidating the bus as a smart and accessible option for exploring the country.
