Bentley challenges the luxury market with the Torcal, a high-performance electric SUV that combines superior range with a price tag significantly lower than its Italian competitors.
The traditional British manufacturer Bentley has taken a decisive step in its journey toward e-mobility by unveiling the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle. Through this strategic positioning, the automaker aims to capture a new consumer profile, focusing on younger buyers looking to enter the high-end vehicle segment without sacrificing sustainability.
The standout feature of this launch is its commercial aggressiveness. While Ferrari, its main rival, debuted in the electric market with the Luce model priced at nearly half a million pounds, the Torcal enters the market with a starting price of 173,300 pounds. This price difference, combined with a 600 km (373 miles) range, places the brand—managed by the Volkswagen group—in a privileged position in the technological race for luxury electric cars.
Sound Innovation and Commitment to Luxury
Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser has assured that the transition to electrification will not compromise the brand’s identity. The vehicle was designed to maintain the company’s refined DNA, elevating the user experience through unique sensory details, such as the motor’s propulsion sound.
Everything about the Torcal will be quintessentially Bentley.
To create a unique acoustic experience, the company collaborated with musicians to develop a bespoke propulsion sound. The system combines unconventional elements, such as percussion, the clinking of crystal glass, sounds of nature, and the characteristic sound of leather, ensuring the electric motor’s silence is replaced by a sophisticated and exclusive sonic signature.
Robust Investment and Future Production
To make this project viable, Bentley allocated 350 million pounds for the development and adaptation of its production infrastructure. The manufacturing facility in Crewe, England, is undergoing a complete modernization to ensure that production of the new electric SUV adheres to the rigorous quality standards of the British brand.
Large-scale production of the Torcal is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027. With this launch, the automaker not only reinforces its commitment to clean energy and emission reductions but also signals a paradigm shift in the sector, proving that extreme luxury can become more accessible and technologically advanced for future generations of drivers.
