Axia Energia innovates the clean energy sector by bringing together small consumers and enabling 15 MW in the Demand Response program.
The energy transition in Brazil is gaining significant momentum with new flexibility tools for the power grid.
Axia Energia has successfully overcome one of the main barriers to entry in the flexibility market by pooling loads from different companies in the free energy market.
This pioneering strategy allowed for the consolidation of three bids totaling 15 MW, with values reaching up to R$ 991/MWh.
As a result, the initiative opens doors for smaller companies to actively participate in system management, a practice previously restricted to large industrial conglomerates due to minimum volume requirements.
Technological innovation favoring flexibility
The country’s unprecedented aggregation model operates through a proprietary digital platform.
The tool uses advanced artificial intelligence resources to optimize load management, indicating the best volumes, times, and prices, in addition to projecting financial gains for participants.
The Demand Response mechanism, regulated by ANEEL in 2022, financially rewards industries that voluntarily reduce their electricity consumption during peak hours, typically between 6 PM and 10 PM.
With the validation of the ONS, the strategy relieves pressure on the grid and avoids the use of costlier and more polluting fossil-fuel power plants.
Axia Energia stated:
By allowing the aggregation of smaller bids, we have expanded access to the Demand Response program, strengthened the system’s energy security, and created a new revenue-generation opportunity for companies.
Outlook for the electricity sector
Axia Energia‘s initiative demonstrates how technology can democratize access to ancillary services in the national electricity sector.
With a potential estimated at 8.8 GW by the EPE, the demand response market is poised to expand with the entry of new aggregators.
As the energy sector seeks smarter solutions to ensure supply stability, collaborative models like this strengthen the transition toward an increasingly efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy matrix.
