Armor Energia is targeting retail expansion with the imminent opening of the free energy market to low-voltage consumers, seeking to capture a significant new market share.

The growing democratization of access to electricity in Brazil is driving new business models in the sector. With the opening of the free market to low-voltage consumers, Armor Energia, which has been active in the segment for four years, is repositioning its strategy with a direct focus on retail. The initiative targets an estimated universe of 89.6 million consumer units in Group B, which encompasses small commercial establishments, small-scale industries, and residential properties.

This strategic move aligns with the schedule established by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). Starting in November 2027, low-voltage consumers will truly be able to choose their energy supplier. For households, the expectation for freedom of choice extends to November 2028. The expansion of the Free Contracting Environment (ACL) represents a significant potential leap, but its realization will depend directly on the conditions offered and the specific regulations for this new market.

New Horizons for Energy Trading

Armor Energia reaches this crucial moment with a solid foundation, boasting over 500 clients and a traded volume of 3,500 GWh. This figure is impressive, equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 1.6 million Brazilians. The company does not limit itself to simple trading but seeks to offer a complete package that includes risk management, energy efficiency solutions, and initiatives aligned with the energy transition.

Marcelo Ávila, Chairman of the Board at Armor Energia, highlights the company’s ambition to expand its reach. He emphasizes the importance of developing products that offer predictability, flexibility, and robust risk management, adapting to the increasingly diverse profile of ACL consumers. The trend is for the relationship between energy retailers and the end-user to become more personalized, with an emphasis on simplified products and management tools.

The Consumer’s Leading Role

Fred Menezes, Commercialization Director at Armor Energia, points to a paradigm shift:

The consumer is taking on a more prominent role and gaining the freedom to define their own contracting strategy.

This new dynamic will require companies to possess a unique ability to create offers that truly meet the needs of an audience with varying consumption volumes and operational profiles.

Regulations for the operation of the low-voltage market are still being defined. Trading mechanisms, product standardization, and criteria for comparing offers are crucial points that will shape the future of this segment. In parallel, Armor reinforces its commitment to sustainability, prioritizing the sale of renewable energy and preventing the emission of more than 350,000 tons of CO₂ annually.

Armor Energia‘s recognition has not gone unnoticed. In 2025, the company topped the EXAME Negócios em Expansão ranking in the revenue category between R$ 30 million and R$ 150 million, a direct reflection of its significant 522% growth recorded in 2024. The opening of the free market to low-voltage consumers is undoubtedly one of the greatest growth opportunities for the sector, demanding innovation and adaptation from all involved companies.
