The upcoming transmission energy auctions scheduled for 2027 could mobilize more than R$ 50 billion, boosting national electric infrastructure and integrating new renewable sources.

The expansion of Brazil’s power grid is gaining momentum with robust projections for the coming years. Aneel estimates that the set of auctions planned for 2027 has the potential to inject over R$ 50 billion into the economy, pending final validation of all ongoing technical studies.

The announcement was made by the federal agency’s Auctions Secretary, Ivo Sechi Nazareno, shortly after the completion of the infrastructure auction held at B3 in São Paulo. In alignment with EPE, the strategic plan points to the offering of roughly 22 lots divided into three contests over the period.

Auction Calendar and New Technologies

The official schedule drawn by MME sets contests for April, October, and December 2027. The first auction, slated for late April, went through a public consultation phase covering a dozen lots and estimated contributions of R$ 12.9 billion, including innovations such as battery energy storage.

For the second half of the year, the focus will shift to a high‑voltage direct current megaproject using VSC technology, along with conventional ventures. According to EPE President Thiago Prado, this large‑scale initiative will have a capacity of 3 GW and span over 2,000 km, channeling clean energy produced in the Northeast region toward the consumption centers of the Southeast and South.

Market Balance and Outlook

The energy market recently celebrated the results of the second auction of the year, which recorded a significant average discount and generated billions of savings for consumers. Major industry players such as Neoenergia and EDP have already confirmed their appetite to continue investing in expanding transmission networks and modernizing the national energy park.

Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Minas e Energia, stated:

The outcome consolidates the guidelines of the MME under President Lula‘s leadership for modernizing the sector. The acquired lots reinforce system security and resilience, ensure the flow of clean energy, and prepare the country for new strategic demands.

With the amounts already contracted between 2023 and 2026 totaling tens of billions of reais, the addition of projects slated for 2027 will raise the cumulative investment level to R$ 116.5 billion. This ongoing cycle of contributions aims to secure the operational stability needed to meet the growing demand for electricity and new technology hubs in the coming decades.
