Grupo Rima has taken another step to strengthen its presence in the wind energy sector by negotiating an increased stake in Casa dos Ventos assets in Brazil’s Northeast.

The expansion strategy in the clean energy sector gained momentum following antitrust approval for new ventures in the renewable segment.

Brazil’s antitrust watchdog, Cade (Administrative Council for Economic Defense), recently approved the transaction granting the industrial conglomerate the right to acquire an even larger equity stake in RDVE Subholding, the renewable generation arm managed by Casa dos Ventos.

This move consolidates a long-term strategic alliance aimed at corporate energy transition.

The corporate structure encompasses RDVE, a holding company that manages four special-purpose entities responsible for operating generation hubs in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to expanding the country’s sustainable energy matrix.

Focus on Self-Generation of Energy

The investment is part of a broader corporate plan to secure a stable and sustainable power supply for the industrial sector.

Subsidiaries such as Rima Industrial, Inonibras Inoculantes, and Ferro Ligas Nipo Brasileiros view renewable generation as a viable alternative to shield their operations from price volatility.

Because electricity consumption represents a significant cost in the manufacturing of silicon- and magnesium-based metal alloys, self-generation acts as a financial shield.

The partnership reflects a growing trend among major Brazilian electro-intensive industries, which are seeking to co-invest directly in wind energy and solar energy parks.

Expanding our stake in wind assets represents a fundamental pillar to ensure industrial competitiveness by providing a clean and predictable electricity supply for our manufacturing plants.

History of Partnerships in the Renewable Sector

The collaboration between the companies is not recent and has yielded significant results in the free electricity market over recent years.

In mid-2024, the antitrust authority had already greenlit the industrial group’s entry into a bloc of powerful power plants located in Rio Grande do Norte, consolidating the synergy between the corporations.

In addition to ventures in Rio Grande do Norte, the alliance has expanded to other strategic regions, including agreements for projects in Ceará and robust long-term contracts for the supply of renewable energy from massive complexes in the Northeast region.

The consolidation of this self-generation model demonstrates how the sustainable energy market in Brazil has evolved beyond the simple buying and selling of electricity.

By actively participating in the capital of generation assets, large industrial consumers ensure tariff predictability and drive the development of new energy transition markets.
