Cemig has won a bidding process to supply renewable energy to 160 units of the Brazilian Army across ten states, strengthening its leadership in the Free Energy Market.

The energy transition in the public sector has received a significant boost with Cemig winning a major competitive tender promoted by the Brazilian Army.

The agreement provides for the supply of clean, traceable electricity to 160 military installations distributed across ten Brazilian states.

In addition to commercializing sustainable energy supplies, the operation includes essential management services in the Free Contracting Environment (ACL).

Through this strategic partnership, the company from Minas Gerais expands its presence among major federal administration bodies, consolidating its retail service model.

Comprehensive scope and management at CCEE

The contract goes far beyond simple electricity supply.

The technical scope includes modernizing metering systems at consumer units and providing full support during the migration to the free market.

In the adopted retail model, the state-owned company takes on all regulatory complexities.

The company is responsible for financial management, collateral requirements, and the settlement of operations before the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE), relieving military facilities of these obligations.

A spokesperson stated:

Serving an institution of the scale of the Brazilian Army reinforces Cemig‘s credibility in the Free Energy Market. Beyond economic competitiveness, we offer our clients predictability, operational security, certified renewable energy, and a specialized relationship structure that supports all stages of energy management.

Financial soundness and sustainable expansion

The project’s reach extends to strategic units in states such as Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and Amazonas.

The pursuit of budget efficiency and environmental goals has motivated government agencies to migrate to the deregulated environment.

With a market share of approximately 14% in the national ACL, Cemig relies on its financial strength to attract new corporate and public clients seeking long-term stability.

The growth of this type of contract signals a maturation trend in the national electricity sector.

Looking ahead, expectations are that more public institutions will adopt clean energy matrices, driven by suppliers capable of ensuring legal certainty and tariff predictability.
