Austrian manufacturer KTM has opened its first exclusive factory in Manaus, marking a R$ 20 million investment and a new chapter for the country’s two-wheeled sector.
The high-performance motorcycle industry in Brazil received a major boost this Wednesday (14). The renowned Austrian brand KTM opened the doors to its first proprietary manufacturing plant in the capital of Amazonas, solidifying a production autonomy strategy that promises to redefine its presence in Latin America.
With an investment of R$ 20 million, the new facility operates using the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) system and was designed to reach an annual production capacity of up to 20,000 motorcycles. The project includes both KTM-branded vehicles and Husqvarna models, raising the technological standards of the Amazon industrial hub.
Industrial autonomy and a new operational phase
The inauguration in the Amazon region marks the end of a long-standing outsourcing partnership with Dafra Motos, which had been in place since 2016. The multinational now directly manages all production stages, from engine machining and assembly to rigorous quality control and the final shipment of batches.
Initially, the plant supports 100 jobs, including both direct and indirect positions, with plans to manufacture 3,500 motorcycles by the end of 2026. The assembly line begins operations with ten model variations focused on motocross, enduro, and the versatile 390 Adventure line.
Petra Preining, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of KTM AG, noted:
“The unit was designed to grow alongside the market, both in capacity and product portfolio. We are strengthening our competitiveness by generating local value.”
Commercial expansion and market synergy
Beyond industrial autonomy in the Manaus Free Trade Zone, the brand’s strategy in Brazil goes hand-in-hand with a commercial restructuring. Distribution and sales management will now benefit from operational synergies with India’s Bajaj, optimizing the Austrian brand’s reach.
To support the volume produced by the new factory, the authorized dealership network has set aggressive growth targets. The manufacturer’s strategic plan aims to increase its footprint from the current 12 exclusive sales points to a total of 30 official dealerships across the country by the end of 2027.
With this strategic move, the European manufacturer is aligning its Brazilian operations with the rigorous global standards of its headquarters in Austria. This manufacturing independence ensures greater logistical agility and prepares the ground to meet the growing national demand for performance and adventure-focused two-wheeled vehicles.
