Gasmig has launched a new public call for the acquisition of biomethane, aiming to expand its clean energy supply and strengthen the renewable gas market in the state of Minas Gerais.
State-owned company Gasmig has taken another decisive step to increase the share of sustainable sources in its supply matrix.
With the launch of a new selection process, the distributor seeks to secure long-term contracts for the purchase of biomethane generated entirely within Minas Gerais, consolidating its commitment to the energy transition and industrial decarbonization.
The initiative reinforces the concessionaire’s strategy to diversify its supply sources with renewable inputs.
The model designed by the company provides for firm and continuous agreements, without seasonal fluctuations, with a term of up to ten years.
This predictability is viewed by the sector as a fundamental pillar to attract new investments in production plants and ensure regional energy security.
Supply modalities and logistics
The newly published notice contemplates three distinct formats for the delivery of the biofuel.
The first alternative focuses on supply within a radius of up to twenty kilometers from future refueling stations that may be installed by Gasmig along major federal highways, such as BR-040, BR-050, BR-262, and BR-135.
The remaining options cover deliveries close to the existing distribution network or in the Montes Claros region.
The guidelines also allow for the feasibility of road transport using trucks powered by vehicular gas, connecting distant plants to the network’s injection points.
The initiative aims to expand its molecule supply alternatives and contribute to the growth of renewable gas supply in Minas Gerais, the company highlights while projecting the expansion of local infrastructure, which already counts on multibillion-dollar investments planned for the coming years.
Regulation and next steps
The competitive process does not stipulate a volume cap or reference price, allowing producers to define their supply ranges, operational start schedules, and base values, which will be adjusted annually by official inflation.
Interested parties have until October 23, 2026, to submit their documentation, provided they meet the technical and regulatory requirements established by ANP and state sector regulations.
With this move, the clean energy market is gaining traction in Minas Gerais, offering new opportunities for biomethane producers and guaranteeing the regional industry a viable and sustainable alternative for replacing fossil fuels in the coming years.
