ANEEL has authorized the start of commercial operations for the Stellantis solar plant in Rio de Janeiro, boosting the energy transition and the expansion of renewables in Brazil.
The transition to clean energy sources is gaining momentum in both the automotive industry and the national power sector. ANEEL has granted final approval for the start of commercial operations at the PS 360E Porto Real solar plant, owned by the automaker Stellantis.
Located in the municipality of Porto Real, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the project features 13.3 MW of installed capacity distributed across 44 generating units.
This initiative underscores the strategy of major corporations to decarbonize their supply chains and expand the self-production of clean energy in the country.
Advances in the photovoltaic mix and sector expansion
Beyond the project in Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian solar generation ecosystem is seeing an accelerated pace of regulatory approvals across different regions.
The generator Statkraft has received authorization to begin testing the Sol de Brotas 17 plant, which boasts 33.6 MW of power and is located in Rio Grande do Norte.
This northeastern complex has received successive approvals from the regulatory body to consolidate its centralized generation capacity within the free energy market.
The consolidation of these projects demonstrates the maturity of photovoltaic technology and the long-term commitment of industries to sustainability.
Innovation in storage and new approvals
A significant milestone for the country’s infrastructure was the approval of testing for a 1.25 MW energy storage system associated with the Sol de Brotas 7 plant in Uibaí, Bahia.
This is the first project featuring a battery system co-located with a solar plant to be authorized by ANEEL in Brazil.
The agency also released the testing phase for the Plaza solar plant in Recife, as well as a generating unit for the Tedesco thermal power plant in Santa Catarina.
With these new authorizations, the renewable energy market strengthens its strategic position in the Brazilian electric mix, ensuring greater security and sustainability.
Projections indicate that the integration of photovoltaic generation and storage technologies will be the primary growth driver for the sector in the coming years.
