Ibovespa soars 7.70% after the first round of the elections, driven by the return of risk appetite and a strong influx of foreign capital into the domestic financial market.

The Brazilian political landscape sparked a wave of optimism in the financial markets, resulting in expressive gains for the Brazilian Stock Exchange. The outcome of the first round of the presidential race surprised analysts and reversed expectations, creating a highly receptive environment for higher-risk assets.

The reaction came right at the opening of trading, reflecting the lead gained by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro over current President Lula da Silva. This specific electoral outlook altered investors’ risk perception, unlocking a robust flow of foreign capital into the national economy.

Historic surge on the Stock Exchange

Brazil’s main stock index closed the session with an expressive jump of 7.70%, reaching 206,911.89 points. This marks the highest level since mid-April and the strongest daily performance since the onset of the health crisis in March 2020, highlighting the magnitude of the turnaround.

In the foreign exchange market, the reaction was equally drastic. The US dollar plummeted 4.12%, closing at R$ 5.0018. At the same time, the international clean energy and transition environment monitored developments in crude oil futures, which pulled back due to global diplomatic efforts and strategic reserve releases.
