BYD has inaugurated its ultra-fast charging technology in Brasília, promising a 400-kilometer driving range in just five minutes and giving a major boost to electric mobility infrastructure in Brazil.
Sustainable mobility in the country has just taken an unprecedented technological leap. Chinese giant BYD has launched the commercial operation of its Flash Charging system on Brazilian soil, choosing the federal capital to debut a solution that promises to drastically reduce waiting times at charging stations.
The demonstration, held at the Denza dealership belonging to Grupo Saga, highlighted the equipment’s capability to deliver up to 1,500 kW of power. In practice, this means that compatible electric vehicles can recover from 10% to 70% of battery charge in a five-minute interval, translating to about 400 kilometers of extra driving range.
An Expansion Strategy Focused on Brazil
Brazil is the first country outside of China to receive this innovation, reinforcing the company’s bet on the domestic market. The choice of Brasília is no accident; the city ranked second in electrified vehicle registrations in August, with over 5,000 units registered, solidifying its position as a strategic hub for the expansion of the green fleet.
To enable this high power output without overloading the local power grid, the system uses proprietary energy storage batteries. They function as a reservoir, gradually accumulating energy to release it instantaneously during high-performance charging.
“The implementation of this technology reflects the brand’s commitment to overcoming the main barriers faced by Brazilian drivers, turning the charging experience into something as fast as conventional refueling”
Projections and the Future of the Charging Network
The arrival of Flash Charging technology is merely the starting point of an ambitious plan. The company’s goal is robust: to install 1,000 ultra-fast chargers nationwide by the end of 2027.
With this move, BYD aims to mitigate so-called “range anxiety,” which still discourages many buyers. By offering ultra-fast charging infrastructure, the manufacturer not only makes daily life easier for EV owners, but also paves the way for the mass adoption of renewable-powered vehicles in major Brazilian metropolitan areas.
