With an impressive power output of up to 1,500 kW, the new Flash Charging technology arrives in Brazil promising to revolutionize electric mobility by enabling drivers to add up to 400 km of driving range in just five minutes.
The expansion of clean energy and electrified vehicles in Brazil has just taken a historic technological leap. The commercial debut of Flash Charging technology, developed by BYD, was marked by an impressive demonstration in Brasília (DF), attended by racing driver Felipe Massa alongside executives Tyler Li and Alexandre Baldy. The innovation promises to eliminate one of the biggest bottlenecks for those looking to adopt an electric vehicle: long waiting times at charging stops.
Installed at the Denza dealership in Brasília, owned by Grupo Saga, the equipment delivers an unprecedented power output of up to 1,500 kW. This milestone is roughly three times the capacity of the fastest chargers previously available in the country, bringing the driver experience much closer to the convenience of refueling a traditional combustion-engine car.
The Power Behind the Innovation
To achieve such remarkable performance, the system pairs the ultra-fast charger with an integrated energy storage mechanism. Electricity is gradually accumulated and then discharged at high power when needed. This makes it possible to install the equipment even in areas where the local electrical grid could not otherwise support the continuous demand required by such an intense charge.
In compatible models, such as the newly arrived Denza Z9 GT, the battery can jump from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and reach an impressive 97% in nine minutes. It is a true revolution for the electric car infrastructure nationwide.
Alexandre Baldy stated:
For a long time, recharging time was one of the main concerns for anyone considering switching to an electric vehicle. Flash Charging changes that benchmark. We are talking about a technology capable of turning a few minutes of stopping time into hundreds of kilometers of range. And Brasília is just the beginning: our goal is to build a network of 1,000 ultra-fast chargers in Brazil by the end of 2027.
— stated Alexandre Baldy, Senior Vice President of BYD Brazil and Head of Sales and Marketing at BYD Auto.
The Future of Ultra-Fast Charging in the Country
The choice of the federal capital for the launch was no accident. Brasília recently stood out as one of the cities with the highest volume of electrified vehicle registrations in the country, reflecting strong local consumer appetite for sustainable energy solutions.
With Brazil surpassing the milestone of hundreds of thousands of electrified vehicles on the roads, the arrival of the 1,500 planned stations by the manufacturer cements the country as a pioneer in the Americas to receive the technology in commercial operation—which already totals around 10,000 units operating in China. This continuous expansion paves the way for a future where the energy transition on highways will be fast, efficient, and accessible.
