The partnership between Axia Energia and Cepel has produced a technological solution capable of monitoring emissions and driving the company’s decarbonization strategy through the end of the decade.
Axia Energia has taken a decisive step in its sustainability journey by announcing the implementation of an advanced climate monitoring tool in collaboration with the Electric Energy Research Center (Cepel).
The new system, dubbed the Carbon Footprint Calculator, was designed to provide precise data on the carbon footprint of the company’s generation and transmission assets.
The primary focus of this initiative is to facilitate the achievement of the company’s net-zero target by 2030.
With this proprietary technology, the company gains greater control over its emissions inventory, enabling business decisions that prioritize drastic pollutant reduction and alignment with global environmental preservation goals.
Strategic Decarbonization Management
The tool goes beyond internal analysis, also offering functionality geared toward the market.
One of the platform’s modules allows for calculating the volume of greenhouse gases (GHG) that Axia Energia‘s clients avoid emitting into the atmosphere by purchasing clean energy from the company, comparing this performance against averages of the National Interconnected System (SIN).

By developing innovative solutions to estimate and monitor emissions from our assets, we ensure that the company’s expansion occurs in alignment with a low-carbon economy.
Expansion and Future Features
In addition to current capabilities, which cover avoided emissions and asset lifecycles—whether in brownfield or greenfield projects—the company is already planning further enhancements.
New modules are currently in development to monitor SF6 gas, frequently used in electrical substations, and to measure the water footprint of its operations.
The expectation is that the tool will become a cornerstone for analyzing the viability of future investments.
By integrating sustainability into the DNA of new infrastructure projects, Axia Energia is not only anticipating regulatory trends but also consolidating its position as a benchmark for ESG practices in the Brazilian energy sector, paving the way for a more conscious and transparent future of renewable energy.
