Brazil’s Midwest region is leading the national ranking for business delinquency, with a 17.44% increase in August 2026, a level significantly higher than the national average.

The economic landscape in the Midwest is raising alarms for the regional productive sector. According to the latest survey conducted by SPC Brasil, the region presented the highest growth in the number of negatively listed companies in the country during August 2026. The 17.44% year-over-year increase highlights the financial pressure on local companies, considerably surpassing the national index of 12.82%.

The indebtedness of Legal Entities in the region also fuels economists’ concerns. The amount of corporate debt grew by 19.90% in the last 12 months, placing the Midwest at the top among Brazilian regions in terms of corporate delinquency. It is worth noting that, in the national context, each negatively listed business accumulates an average debt of R$ 7,030.71.

Challenges for Consumers and Risk Management

Parallel to the fragility of businesses, the situation for Natural Persons also warrants caution. Currently, 6.34 million consumers in the region have restrictions on their credit history. This contingent is equivalent to 47.80% of the local adult population, positioning the Midwest as the second region with the highest proportion of negatively listed individuals in Brazil. Year-to-date, delinquency among individuals has grown by 5.06%, accompanied by a 10.10% jump in the total number of financial liabilities.

“Faced with this escalating debt scenario, specialists emphasize that business survival and stability depend on rigorous cash flow management and a strategic reassessment of all short and medium-term financial commitments.”

The statistics were consolidated by SPC Brasil, one of the country’s leading credit bureaus, which has a comprehensive monitoring base including over 69 million CNPJ (company registration) records and 263 million CPF (individual taxpayer registry) records. The trend for the coming months requires increased attention from entrepreneurs, who need to seek debt renegotiation mechanisms and rigorous expense control to mitigate the impacts of this delinquency cycle.
