Ambàr Announces R$5.5 Billion Investment to Modernize Amazonas Energy

The company Ambàr announced a billion-dollar investment to transform the electrical infrastructure in Amazonas by 2031, focusing on modernization, safety, and efficiency for the state’s energy system.

The energy landscape of the state of Amazonas is poised for a profound transformation. Ambàr, the strategic arm of the J&F group, has officially presented a robust investment plan totaling R$5.5 billion to the Legislative Assembly of the State (Aleam). The central objective is to overcome the chronic limitations of the local electrical system and ensure a sustainable and continuous energy supply for the population.

Of the total funds, approximately R$3.9 billion will be directly contributed by the company’s own capital, while the remaining amount will be facilitated through Federal Government transfers, designated for projects such as Luz para Todos (Light for All) and the strategic interconnection of municipalities. Since taking over the operations of the former Amazonas Energia in April 2024, the concessionaire has focused on conducting a precise diagnosis of the most urgent structural needs of the network.

Technological Modernization and Network Expansion

The construction schedule, which extends until 2031, includes several crucial work streams for the stability of energy distribution. Among the planned actions are the replacement of obsolete cables, the expansion of the distribution network in critical areas, the revitalization of existing substations, and the construction of new ones. Furthermore, the company plans to integrate intelligent monitoring technologies to optimize electrical load management and reduce technical and non-technical losses that have historically impacted the sector.

Commitment to Energy Efficiency

According to João Pilla, the concessionaire’s CEO, the project is the result of a realistic analysis of the difficulties faced by the distributor in recent years. The executive highlighted that the challenge goes beyond finances, directly addressing the need to renew assets that suffered from a lack of investment for long periods.

“We are aware of the challenges and are prepared to deliver safer and more reliable energy to the population of all of Amazonas, supported by a more modern and robust infrastructure.”

This investment plan marks a turning point for the renewable energy and infrastructure sector in Northern Brazil. By prioritizing network robustness and the adoption of new technologies, Ambàr aims to mitigate supply failures and align Amazonas with national quality standards. The expectation is that, as the stages progress, the region will not only present greater service stability but also a stronger foundation for economic growth and the development of future clean energy sources.
