Tenda Atacado has invested R$ 2.2 million in a new solar plant in Matão (SP), projecting a R$ 360,000 annual reduction in fixed electricity costs.

The pursuit of greater energy autonomy and sustainability has led Tenda Atacado to implement a new photovoltaic solar energy project. The store located in Matão, in the interior of São Paulo, now features its own infrastructure for electricity generation, marking a strategic move by the retail sector toward energy efficiency and reducing dependence on conventional utility providers.

With an investment of R$ 2.2 million, the chain installed 972 solar panels, reaching 680 kWp of installed capacity. The system has the capacity to generate approximately 838,000 kWh annually, a volume sufficient to cover more than a third of the unit’s total consumption, cementing distributed generation as a pillar of operational savings for the company.

Efficiency and financial impact

The implementation of the solar system provides direct relief to the company’s bottom line. It is projected that the Matão unit will save R$ 30,000 per month on its electricity bill, amounting to R$ 360,000 annually. More than just an expense reduction, the project elevates energy to a strategic variable, ensuring greater financial stability in the face of electricity market volatility.

This technological advancement follows the national trend of expanding renewable energy sources. Data from the Energy Research Office (EPE) reveals that, in 2025, the sector saw robust growth of 24.7%, with total installed capacity reaching 64.8 GW. This scenario highlights that the transition to self-generation is an growing reality, essential for the budget predictability of large companies.

Sustainability as a market differentiator

The decision to invest in clean energy goes beyond store walls. Alignment with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) agendas meets growing demands from the financial market. According to a survey by PwC, 66% of investors in Brazil argue that organizations should prioritize sustainability investments, even if it impacts immediate profits.

Energy efficiency is no longer just an operational issue; it has become a competitive differentiator and an evaluation criterion for investors and stakeholders.

Currently, about 30% of Brazilian companies already use climate initiatives as sources of revenue or brand valuation. For Tenda Atacado, the Matão plant acts as a pilot project. The technical performance and economic returns observed at this unit will serve as a basis for the chain to evaluate the feasibility of expanding this self-generation model to other units across the country, designing a future with greater environmental awareness and financial strength.
