The Northeast region of Brazil is gearing up for a more sustainable future. Innovative initiatives are underway to map and prepare the workforce for the emerging low-carbon economy. CESAR, in partnership with the Climate and Society Institute (iCS), is leading an ambitious project aimed at identifying the necessary skills and professional development opportunities in the area of sustainability across all nine northeastern states.
The kickoff for this transformation journey will be a free webinar scheduled for August 11th. The event, titled “Green Futures in the Northeast: trends, opportunities, and challenges for promoting a more responsible industry,” promises to be a platform for crucial discussions on the climate transition and the role of professionals in this scenario.
Free webinar launches a series of actions to map the green workforce in the Northeast
The virtual meeting marks the beginning of a large-scale project that will extend over the coming months. The main objective is to conduct a detailed mapping of productive vocations, business opportunities, and training challenges in each state of the region, focusing on the demands of the green economy.
The initiative is aimed at a diverse audience, including industry professionals, researchers, sustainability experts, environmental managers, and leaders engaged with innovation and the energy transition. The idea is to bring together different expertise to build a clear picture of the essential skills needed to drive the responsible industry in the Northeast.
Essential Dialogue for the Sustainable Development of the Region
The webinar will feature notable industry figures such as Thomas Kiss (TK Consultoria), Nicolis Amaral (iCS), and Mario Cardoso (National Confederation of Industry), with moderation by Diogo Araújo, ESG analyst at CESAR. The participation of these specialists reinforces the importance of dialogue between different spheres for the advancement of sustainability.
This event inaugurates the project “The future of industrial sectors, skills, and just productive inclusion in the Northeast,” a strategic collaboration between CESAR and iCS. The proposal is to promote multi-sectoral workshops in all northeastern states to collectively identify strategic sectors, understand regional vocations, and pinpoint the main bottlenecks in training qualified professionals for the low-carbon economy.
Professional Training Aligned with Green Transition Needs
The contributions gathered throughout these actions will serve as a basis for creating innovative educational proposals aligned with the requirements of the green transition. The expectation is that the diagnoses developed in partnership with industry, government, academia, and civil society will result in training pathways that strengthen the sustainable development of the Northeast.
“The green transition happens in the territories, in the companies, and especially in people’s lives. The Northeast has very particular conditions to take a leading role in this process, but we need to better understand our vocations and regional differences while simultaneously gaining agility to respond to the transformations already underway.”

Projects and Partnerships for a Fairer and More Sustainable Future
The project aims to strengthen the planning of the climate transition through evidence generation, intersectoral coordination, and identification of essential skills for future jobs. To achieve this, technical and participatory surveys will be conducted focusing on productive sectors, strategic actors, installed capacities, and regional vocations. This information will be transformed into valuable knowledge to support public policies, innovation initiatives, and professional training programs.
The initiative goes beyond discussing trends, seeking to build an integrated vision of the region’s future, bridging education, sustainability, and economic development. In this way, the project reinforces the Northeast’s potential as a national hub for climate innovation, actively contributing to a fairer and more inclusive green transition.
